The department of civil engineering, APEC, in association with ICI student chapter organized a one day seminar on PREPARATION OF CONCRETE USING WASTE MATERIAL in its own premises on January 23, 2013. The seminar was inaugurated at 9.30 a.m. by Er. K. Jayasankar, Asst. Vice President, Technical Services, Ultra Tech Company Ltd, Chennai and Chairman, Tamil Nadu Centre, ISI. Prof. A. Krishnamoorthi welcomed the gathering. The Chief Guide was honoured with a shawl by Dr. V. Ramasamy, Dean (Planning and Development) and the Principal Dr. S. Jayashiri, presented him a memento. Prof. R. Venkatakrishnaih, HOD, introduced the Chief Guest. In his inaugural address Er. Jayasankar emphasized the need to harness available waste material in the preparation of natural new materials would cause its large scale depletion and further strain the nature, which may lead to environmental degradation. The inauguration was followed by technical sessions.
Four resource persons drawn from various institutions across the state delivered key note address on different aspects of making waste materials like textile sludge, slag, msand, ecosand, etc. A total of 168 students participated in the seminar. The overwhelming response was due to the timing and aptness of topic as a large number of students are now in the project mode preparing for their completion of their programme.
The valedictory address was held at 3 p.m. the same day. Mr. K.G.K. Moorthy, Director – corporate, CERACHEM chemical Ltd, Chennai and Secretary – cum – Treasurer, ICI, Tamil Nadu Centre was the chief guest of the valedictory function. Mr. Sathish Kumar, Student Secretary, welcomed the gathering. Dr. V. Ramasamy, Dean honoured the Chief Guest was introduced by Prof. Krishnamoorthi, Convener. The Chief Guest in his address, presented a scenario of repair and rehabilitation of existing damaged buildings using construction chemicals which are nowadays available in plenty in the country. The Chief Guest gave away certifications to the participants. The ended with the rendering of National Anthem.
